This is not a overnight read, or a couple. This book has gave me hope that there is more stories, like this one to read. Jul 08, Ashleigh Louise Sneyd rated it really liked it.
Superb I love zombie books, the biggest problem I have is I feel like some leave so much unsaid that it becomes hard to follow the story.
I like that this is set in the beginning and I love the way it talks about the virus growing and adapting. Its really awesome the way the characters grew.
The book made me laugh, cry and not want to put it down. Would absolutely recommend - Ive only given four stars because Id hate to give five and the rest of the books let it down Superb I love zombie books, the biggest problem I have is I feel like some leave so much unsaid that it becomes hard to follow the story.
Aug 31, Elli Lewis rated it really liked it Shelves: apocalyptic-faves. Shaun of the Dead meets The Walking Dead. This is a really entertaining Zombie story that demonstrates the excellent quality of independent authors out there.
The main character is likeable, the story is gripping and it's really funny. I absolutely love Dave. Jul 02, Lisa rated it it was amazing.
Wonderful Book I have been reading this book for over a week. This is the first zombie book that I've read that I simply could not put down.
It's not all action, though there is a lot. But the thoughts, actions and reactions all come through with simple clarity. It's one damn fine book.
Oct 03, Chris Birrell rated it it was amazing. Adrenaline-fueled zombie classic! Simply couldn't put it down. Great, memorable and not in the slightest bit cliched characters or storyline make for a stomping good read.
And some original new zombie aspects add some originality into my favourite genre! Read it today! Jun 02, Colleen Goff rated it it was amazing.
Awesome I read his other series and he is such a good writer I needed more! I am not usually a fan of zombie stuff but this so well written. The characters are wonderful can't wait to read the rest of the series and anything else by this author.
Mar 04, Freedom rated it it was amazing. This is the first time I have read a book. Im glad I didnt pay for this.
The book was easy to read and there were entertaining parts, however there was a lot of repetition and pointless plot lines.
It was just one ridiculous gory massacre after another. One very disturbing scene that I found uncomfortable to read and unnecessary was when a group of straight characters held a man captive and pretended they were going to rape him as punishment.
The characters found it all very hilarious and ran away with the man in tears traumatised. Rape is not a joke! It left me utterly flabbergasted.
Mean while the two protagonists of the book are out there slicing and dicing zombies in to oblivion and described as coming out of battles drenched in zombie blood from head to toe, faces covered!
Yet no sign of infection for them or any other character. There was also a few elements that strayed away from the classic zombie genre.
It was far too intelligent and made the genre too far fetched. Another ridiculous thing is the fact the main character Howie is meant to be just a run of the mill average joe supermarket manager that has some how transformed in to the ultimate killing machine!
He manages to turn in to a highly skilled, super fit assassin in an instant, with the ability to lead and navigate an army of people, not to mention strategize a full blown war.
I mean talk about transferable skills! Aug 30, Mike Emeny rated it it was ok. Lets be honest, if you're considering this book and you're a fan of zombies then you are not likely expecting 'high' fiction.
I went into this on the back of the countless reviews here and on Amazon that raved about this series.
Things started off quite well. I wasn't keen on the use of present tense, and I never did like it as the story progressed. Though it started off being quite intense, and suited the story well, eventually it felt gimmicky and it just didn't sit well with me.
In terms of Lets be honest, if you're considering this book and you're a fan of zombies then you are not likely expecting 'high' fiction. In terms of plot - again, things started well enough.
Lots of action, a general sense of terror and confusion as the outbreak explodes out of control. The first few days were fairly entertaining - and then it began to drag Like the zombies that take front of centre for most of the book, the plot reaches a peak and suddenly tumbles into tedium.
Only, not a lot happens in that day at all!! No spoilers - but I was left utterly cheated and deflated by the end of the story.
Looking ahead at the next 7 days and I note that the book is over pages long!! You'd be better served reading the Wheel of time Series. Honestly, if I have to read how Howie is 'good' and the zombies he kills are 'evil' one more time I might just implode.
On too many occasions the plot is halted whilst the reader is taken on Howie's diatribe against the Undead. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
As a bonus action, you transform for 1 minute. You gain the following benefits while transformed:.
You can transform a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. The appearance of your Form of Dread reflects some aspect of your patron.
For example, your form could be a shroud of shadows forming the crown and robes of your lich patron, or your face might transform into bat-like features due to your vampire patron.
Roger got very excited by that. He handed the script around for everybody to read, but nobody understood the dialogue, so he told me to translate it into English.
The script was ruined. Mel Welles said "it was a wonderful script and it probably would have been the cult film rather than Little Shop of Horrors had it been shot that way.
But either Roger or someone at American International Pictures didn't think it was commercially viable to do it that way and at the last minute a decision was made to rewrite the script without that.
By the time The Undead was being made, the popularity of reincarnation was starting to dwindle. Therefore, Corman decided that they needed to change it up a little and added the time travel elements of Quintis, and a title change.
In July Variety reported that Corman would fully finance the film himself, although it would be distributed by AIP.
Pamela Duncan says Roger Corman called her up "out of the blue" and offered her the lead. Mel Welles called his role of Smolkin "one of the best characters I ever played.
Howie is such a fantastic character, and always willing to risk his life to help out people. Even though at the time it could cost his life, he still wanted to try and help.
Not many folks would be willing to do the same in apocalypse; many would try to save their dear lives and try to get away by any means possible.
The final perspective being it is the occasional exposition of the infection itself, as it looks through the eyes of the undead. Haywood once again spins a tale of Howie, a night shift supermarket worker as he fights off the undead and meets some fantastic people along the way.
He first meets up with awesome people along the way. First, he teams up with Dave, a co-worker at the grocery store. Dave is a professional killing machine, devoid and methodical of social grace.
The two characters are joined by rookie soldiers Blowers, Cookey, and Nick and the comedy continue as the group dish out witty barbs.
The undead may be incorporeal ghosts or corporeal mummies , vampires and zombies. The undead are featured in the belief systems of most cultures, and appear in many works of fantasy and horror fiction.
The term is also occasionally used for putative non-supernatural cases of re-animation, from early experiments like Robert E.
Cornish 's to future sciences such as chemical brain preservation and cryonics. Bram Stoker considered using the title, The Un-Dead , for his novel Dracula , and use of the term in the novel is mostly responsible for the modern sense of the word.
The word does appear in English before Stoker but with the more literal sense of "alive" or "not dead", for which citations can be found in the Oxford English Dictionary.
In one passage of Dracula , Nosferatu is given as an "Eastern European" synonym for "un-dead". User Ratings. External Reviews.
